Karlie's Back!

Updated Wednesday February 29, 8.39am: Karlie Kloss returned to the catwalk last night for Anthony Vaccarello, opening the young designer's show. The model, who skipped Milan and New York Fashion Weeks because of a rumoured "big opportunity", walked for Vaccarello last season too - and will now likely appear in all her regular Paris shows, including Christian Dior, Lanvin and Jean Paul Gaultier.
SEE KARLIE ON THE VACCARELLO CATWALK
The model Tweeted yesterday, "Shoutout to all my #pfw ladies," which included make-up artist Pat McGrath, and models Jourdan Dunn, Toni Garrn, Anja Rubik, Frida Gustavsson and Joan Smalls - who replied: "Nice to have you back! Lovely seeing you today backstage."

Updated Tuesday February 28, 10.42am: Karlie Kloss is set to make her first catwalk appearance of the season during Paris Fashion Week. Kloss Tweeted a picture taken from a car window at 1.41am this morning which said, "What a beautiful night in Paris," before her friend and fellow model Jourdan Dunn confirmed this morning that they would take to the catwalk together in the coming days.
"There's 3 things I'm looking forward to in Paris," Dunn Tweeted this morning. "1. I'm gonna be reunited with Karlie! 2. Me and Cara in the same hotel. 3. The Kanye West after-party."

Kloss is usually a regular on both the New York and Milan catwalks, for designers including Marc Jacobs and Dolce & Gabbana, but missed both weeks this season for a rumoured "big opportunity". Ten seasons in as a model, she'd generally be considered too experienced to be booked as an exclusive - usually the preserve of younger models who forsake all other shows to appear in just one - but a Tweet by Kloss on February 9 hinted that something dramatic was afoot.
"Today was a game changer ;)" she said. "#LovingLife."

Updated Friday February 10, 9.24am: Karlie Kloss won't be taking to the New York Fashion Week catwalk this season. Despite having been spotted in the Big Apple earlier this week - attending President Obama's Runway to Win benefit with fellow model Chanel Iman - she has reportedly "cancelled all [New York] catwalk appearances for a big opportunity," the Daily Beast claims.

Ten seasons in, and at just 19 years old, her career has gone from strength to strength over the past 12 months. Kloss appeared in more than 60 shows last season, secured her eighth international Vogue cover, and became a Victoria's Secret Angel in the first year that she appeared on the brand's catwalk.
Kloss herself as not yet confirmed her absence from the NYFW catwalk.

Kristen Stewart is the face of Balenciaga’s new fragrance

Twilight megastar Kristen Stewart sure has played hard to get in terms of signing up to the hundreds of celebrity endorsements we’re sure have been thrown her way. But the 21-year-old has finally succumbed to Balenciaga, the French fashion house announcing that she’s to be the face of their as-yet-unnamed new fragrance.

While Balenciaga creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere told WWD the 21-year-old actress “shares the radical spirit of Balenciaga”, Stewart says she has always felt drawn to the brand: “Even when I first began to consider fashion and admittedly rarely knew the brand I was wearing, I always recognised and loved Balenciaga. It feels full circle to be involved with something that spoke to me then and of course continues to excite me now. The brand is just cool. That’s the way it is.”

Stay tuned for a spring 2012 release of the new Balenciaga scent.

The New Carrie

AnnaSophia Robb has been confirmed as the actress who will play the young Carrie Bradshaw in the highly-anticipated The Carrie Diaries - the prequel to Sex and the City - according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 18-year-old is best known for taking on the role of Violet Beauregarde in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and was recently cast as Wendy in a new film spin-off of Peter Pan, alongside Terence Stamp and Sean Bean. The new SATC-related television show will focus on Bradshaw's coming of age as a 16 and 17-year-old, from finding her first love to how she originally met Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda.
"So excited for #carriediaries!" Robb tweeted last night. "It was online before I even knew hahahaha oh technology."

Updated Friday January 20, 3.16pm: Following months of speculation, The CW Network has confirmed that it is bringing Carrie Bradshaw back to television screens in a Sex and the City prequel series. Based on SATC creator Candace Bushnell's novel, The Carrie Diaries, the new show will go back to the Eighties to span Bradshaw's teenage high school years. Casting is yet to be confirmed, although Blake Lively, Miley Cyrus and Glee's Dianna Agron have all been linked to the role made famous by Sarah Jessica Parker. Amy B. Harris, who worked on the original HBO series, has been confirmed as the writer.

Updated Monday August 15, 9.28am:Is Sex And The City returning to our television screens? Rumours suggest that rather than another film, a return to the small screen is on the cards.
"Ultimately, Darren Star - the man who created the hit series - will have the overall say, but everyone is agreed a TV show is the direction they want to take the franchise in," a source told the Daily Mail. "Sarah Jessica Parker will be producing. She was worried about doing another film after the bad reaction to the SATC2 movie, but a TV show is definitely something she wants to happen."
Plans were reportedly already at an advanced stage for a film about the early lives of Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda - rumoured to be starring Blake Lively in the lead role - but it seems that will now be put on hold in favour of a SATC television return.

New Outlook

BFC young ambassador Poppy Delevingne says that the fashion industry is whole-heartedly embracing a wider range of body shapes.
"There is definitely less pressure to be skinny," she told the Telegraph. "We have gorgeous curvy girls on the catwalk and celebrities who aren't afraid of their big boobs and bums. It's all much more accepted now - anything goes."
The Louis Vuitton muse believes that fashion's changing silhouette is part of a wider movement.
"Our fashion industry is growing up," she said. "It's finally matured. People know life's not all about being skinny because, frankly, that's boring."

Milan Fashion Week

11.31am: Gucci creative director Frida Giannini has given an insight into what we can expect from the label's latest show this afternoon.
"I was thinking about a certain type of romanticism," she told Italian newspaper La Repubblica. "It's quite nocturnal in a way, quite dark, but still very sensual and feminine. It's about the dual of the Gucci woman - she can be very feminine and sensual, but as the same time very tough and powerful. There are some military references from the 19th Century, so I have explored equestrian boots."
But even Gianinni, a fashion veteran, isn't immune to the odd Fashion Week disaster.
"A few years ago, in the most exciting moment of the show, all the evening gowns were on the catwalk but the music was completely off," she said. "There was a technical problem, so the models were all out and I was crying backstage."

Updated Wednesday February 22, 8.32am: After the excitement of London (Erdem and Kane and McQ, oh my), the womenswear shows move to the glamour of Milan today - whilst London becomes the world's menswear hub for one day only.

Never a city known for an excess of subtlety, Milan puts its biggest names right out in front: beginning with Gucci on the very first day. Alberta Ferretti and Alessandro Dell'Aqcua's No.21 share the Wednesday schedule before things get even bigger on Thursday.
We don't have to wait long for the rest of the Italian powerhouses to appear - with Karl Lagerfeld's Fendi and the fashion pack's favourite, Prada, taking to the catwalk on Thursday. Friday brings out Moschino, Etro and Just Cavalli - all before lunch - whilst the evening sees the unveiling of the new Versace collection.

Bottega Veneta opens the weekend's schedule, followed by Emporio Armani, Jil Sander and Emilio Pucci - and Sunday brings us exactly what we want to look at on a lazy afternoon: a gaggle of Dolce & Gabbana-clad supermodels, and almost certainly some dresses to die for. New high street hero Marni and knitwear specialists Missoni also share Sunday's catwalk schedule.

Polar opposite DSquared and Giorgio Armani bring the short week to an end on Monday, before we turn our attentions to Paris and the last leg of the fashion carousel.

LFW Secret

ONE of London Fashion Week's best kept secrets, the Designer Jumble Sale, takes place tomorrow - and if you're fast you could bag a catwalk purchase for less than a high street one.

Highlights include: Versus by Christopher Kane boots, worth £690, priced at £155; a Phillip Lim blue pussy-bow blouse, worth £300, for just £60; a Ralph Lauren red cashmere jacket, still on sale for £1200, priced at £200; and a Marc Jacobs pink tweed jacket for £50.

"London Fashion Week and the whole fashion industry is amazingly supportive; and the generosity of our donors helps us give our customers even better bargains to beat the wintery weather, like a pair of knee-high boots and an amazing Ashley Isham tweed coat going for £89," the sale's organiser, and former VOGUE.COM editor, Abi Chisman told us. "But my favourites this season are the rare items like a skeleton-print Tshirt from Luella's 2003 collaboration with surfwear label Voodoo Dolls, £12; and a Seventies Yves Saint Laurent mac for just £89. Bring on spring!"

The Designer Jumble Sale takes place at the Church of the Annunciation, Bryanston Street, London, W1H 7AH from 4pm until 7.30pm tomorrow (nearest Tube: Marble Arch). Follow @designerjumble on Twitter or Like it on Facebook for more information.

Rykiel Sold

Sonia Rykiel has sold 80 per cent of its label to investors Fung Brands Ltd, leaving the family with a 20 per cent minority stake. As reported on January 26, the fashion house's current president, Nathalie Rykiel, has been made vice-chairman of the board.

"This partnership joins the forces of Sonia Rykiel and its exceptional bonds to clients with Fung Brands' know-how, its knowledge of the sector and access to international markets," the companies told WWD. "Benefiting from the strong and distinctive identity of the brands, the partners wish to develop the company internationally as a true global brand of international luxury."

talks with investor Fung Brands as the Hong Kong-based company bids to acquire a 80 per cent stake in the French label. Rykiel head of brand, Nathalie, will be appointed vice chairman of the board once the agreement has been finalised, WWD reports. No financial details have yet been announced.

Sonia Rykiel may soon be selling a minority stake in a bid to speed up its expansion.
"I have not taken any decision," said the label's president Nathalie Rykiel. "I have only just started analysing the possibility. I don't know if it's something I want to pursue, but I want to develop the brand. It has huge potential, in Asia obviously, but elsewhere also. I know that I can go much faster and further with outside help, but I am not even at the stage of contemplating whether the partner should be French or international."
Rykiel has already approached Edmond de Rothschild Corporate Finance chairman Laurence Danon to help her look into options for the family-owned business. If the sale were to take place, the label would be in good company - both Prada and Salvatore Ferragamo have recently floated shares on the stock market, while British brand and Duchess of Cambridge favourite Issa yesterday announced it had sold a 51 per cent stake to Mohamed Al Fayed's daughter, Camilla.

Fashion Food

WHAT models eat is a constant source of debate, so when Jourdan Dunn, Bette Franke and Nyasha Matonhooze opened up about their New York Fashion Week diets we were keen to hear about their food choices.

"You don't get time to nourish yourself so when you do eat you really want good food," said Nyasha Matonhodze, who walked in shows including Oscar de la Renta, Rodarte and Carolina Herrera.

Matonhodze, along with Bette Franke, cited sushi as her fashion week choice, whilst Jourdan Dunn showed her love for fast food.

"Last night I had BonChon Korean fried chicken," she told The New York Magazine, referring to the cult Asian franchise.

Rhodes To Paris

ZANDRA RHODES will show at Paris Fashion Week this season, as she hosts a retrospective show featuring her most iconic pieces taken from her label's rich archives. The legendary designer will open On|Off's Paris schedule on Wednesday 29 - her first show since 2007, when she launched her MAC make-up line in London.

"Since On|Off approached me, I've been hunting out and going through all my storage boxes to find the key garments and looks that I have designed over the last four decades," she told us last night. "I knew a month ago that it was happening but kept pushing it to the back of my mind with fright. Now it's upon me and I can't run away!"

As well as showing her most famous items, Rhodes will also treat audiences to a host of new designs - as well as a new print, which will adorn guests' goodie bags.

"Paris is the ultimate place to show," she said. "I am very nervous, but I'm excited about showing all the varied looks that I have invented - the ethnic chiffon with their feathers, I was the first; the Indian collection with the blue goddess make-up and jewelled bindies; the swirling, quilted, ethnic dresses that will swirl around and around. Finding all the accessories is death, I can hardly move around my penthouse!"

Zelda Celebration

NEW YORK catwalk watchers were in mourning yesterday, after it emerged that 95-year-old socialite Zelda Kaplan had died, after collapsing in the front row. Onlookers thought that the woman once called "New York's oldest and most beloved night owl" had fainted, at the the Joanna Mastroianni show at Lincoln Centre on Wednesday, but she was later pronounced dead at Roosevelt Hospital.

"Passing away in the New York front row was how it was meant to be," her friend, designer Richie Rich, told the New York Post. "Zelda loves fashion, so she died for fashion. She would have wanted to go out in style."

As well as being a champion of humanitarian causes, Kaplan was known for her colourful and eccentric style and for her lively nightlife; attending art openings, parties and clubs -often with friends more than 70 years younger than her. She was profiled by several NY publications, including the New York Times and the Village Voice, and was the subject of a 2004 documentary film called Her Name is Zelda, which detailed her evolution from a "typical suburban housewife" to "a beloved and eccentric creature of New York nightlife."

"I'm a curious person,'' she once told the New York Times. ''I want to keep learning until it's over. And when it's over, it's over… I want to be an example for young people so they aren't afraid of growing old and a lesson to old people that you can be productive. You don't have to sit around and wait for death.''
Her husband, Gideon Lewin, was reportedly with her at the show - and accompanied her to her hospital.

London Countdown

OH London, how we've missed you. Fashion Week kicks off in the capital tomorrow and, we can confidently say without a hint of bias, it's shaping up to rival NY for innovation; Milan for glamour; and Paris for big names.

Tomorrow sees Antoni & Alison get the Week underway, instead of the usual first show, Paul Costelloe - because the Irish designer has decided not to show this season. Then, following LFW's official launch at Somerset House, the day is packed with names to watch: from past Fashion Fringe names Corrie Nielsen and Jena.Theo, to the latest winner Fyodor Golan. The Central Saint Martins MA show rounds off the day, where, as always, we'll be on the lookout for the next Christopher Kane.

The weekend is packed with big names - from Stella McCartney's London return and Moschino Cheap & Chic's London debut on Saturday, to Mulberry's always-celebrity-packed show on Sunday - whilst some of LFW's most enticing shows also pop up over the weekend: Jonathan Saunders, Louise Gray, Marios Schwab, Clements Ribeiro, House of Holland, and JW Anderson. We may also have our first chance of a front row sighting of the Duchess of Cambridge this weekend, with two of her favourite labels, Temperley and Issa, showing back-to-back on Saturday night.
Monday, traditionally the week's biggest day, doesn't disappoint: hosting Peter Pilotto; Antonio Berardi, Christopher Kane, Erdem, Burberry Prorsum, Giles, Osman - and the debut of the Alexander McQueen diffusion line, McQ.

Tuesday rounds out the womenswear action with shows from Mary Katrantzou, Roksanda Ilincic, Holly Fulton, Meadham Kirchhoff and David Koma - before all eyes move to a packed menswear day, including E Tautz, MAN and James Long.
You needn't despair if you won't be in the tent for the week's biggest shows - you can watch all the action on the British Vogue Facebook page, where we'll be live-streaming not only every single show from the Topshop Venue - but also the biggest and most star-studded show of the week, Burberry.

Miranda Kerr and David Jones launch A/W 2012 fashion

Miranda Kerr didn’t have a swimsuit moment on the David Jones runway this time around. "I'm glad I'm not in another bikini, especially with people this close," she said. But in spite of covering up, the department store’s fashion ambassador turned in a no-less-stunning catwalk performance, opening in a sleek Josh Goot tuxedo and closing in a beaded Collette Dinnigan dress (a preview of the collection the designer is showing in Paris next month).

The newly refurbished seventh floor of DJs, On Seven, hosted 300 VIP guests in an intimate dinner-style setting, with the runway on the same level as the audience, which included Dannii Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Megan Gale, Gracie Otto and Miranda’s parents.

So what does David Jones have in store for us this autumn/winter 2012? Its impressive roster of designers - which include Dion Lee, Carla Zampatti, Lover, camilla and marc, Willow, Thurley and many more - delivered some highly covetable winter-wardrobe options in the form of structured coats, fun printed dresses, and luxe knits and evening dresses to get you through the long winter ahead.

Daddy Duffy

ROBERT DUFFY, Marc Jacobs' business partner and right-hand man, has spoken for the first time about becoming a father at the age of 57. Duffy married his partner Alex Cespedes in Provincetown, Massachusetts in May 2010 and - after a year-long domestic adoption process - brought home their daughter Victoria Alexis Duffy last summer, changing everything about their lives.

"When we first started getting serious about each other, Alex told me that he wanted to have children," Duffy told WWD. "I've got 2,000 of them working with me, I have 14 godchildren, and I am 57… My priorities changed completely. I was always just working. My job has been my life. Marc and I started the company in 1984 and he was my family. All of a sudden, within the three last years, I am married with a kid. In the past, there was no way that I would be sitting here doing this so close to the show, but I want to be at home now. I want to be with the baby."

And, after being his best man at the wedding, Jacobs was also called upon to act as godfather to Victoria; a task that he wasn't entirely confident about.

"All Marc said was, 'Robert you can't be serious that if something happened to you and Alex, I would get the baby," Duffy said. "'No,' I said. 'But you oversee her interests, and her financial interest in the company. I don't trust anybody else, other than my husband.' Strangely enough, Marc is the only person in the world I trust unconditionally to do the right things. It was so important to me that he would be a godfather, not because I think that he would raise her, but I know that he would make sure that she would be raised properly."

Model Row

Model Sanctuary founder Erin O'Connor has weighed in on the underage models debate, supporting a group of MPs who are campaigning for model protection laws for girls under the age of 16. O'Connor's respite centre is temporarily closed.

"Back in 2007, the fashion industry had recently undergone a turbulent and reflective period which resulted in the recommendations of the Model Health Inquiry," said O'Connor. "Out of those recommendations, the decision to protect under 16-year-olds from appearing on the catwalk was one of the most impacting.
"It seemed to me that there was mounting pressure on both sides, not only for young models at a crucial stage in their mental and physical development, but also for some members of the wider community who look to fashion to influence their own body aesthetic," she added. "It is imperative that we continue to secure the welfare of our younger participants and we should always aim to do that in an empowered and creative way. It's for reasons such as this that I founded the model sanctuary. We aim to encourage a strong ethic of self-reliance, awareness and belief with the encouragement of our friendly and experienced team of professionals."

Updated Monday February 13, 9.56am: Legendary model agencies Premier Model Management and Storm Model Management have fought back against allegations that the fashion industry mistreats child models. A group of female MPs are calling to create new laws for the protection of child models, after a host of young models, last week, spoke out about how girls as young as 13 were forced to work long, arduous hours with little food and drink and asked to strike sexually provocative poses.

"Mostly, when we have a model who is under 16, they tend to start out modelling in the holidays or half term and go around with their parent," Premier co-founder Carole White told us this morning. "If this is not possible the agency will send an intern to show them around. We tend to assess their ability to cope on a daily basis. Some girls are confident and can work with a photographer and client easily, while others need teaching which in actual fact comes mostly from the photographer and stylist. Usually an under-16 is basically an apprentice to modelling, we as agents council them in what to expect. Many girls hate to have an agent or parent with them on shoots as it is an artistic and creative process, and quite personal between the model and the photographic team."

"Young models need very careful supervision, and it is rare for one of our under-16s to be working in the international market," Storm Model Management managing director Sarah Doukas told us. "In exceptional cases, if a younger model gets booked for a prestigious job abroad, then she is always chaperoned by one of our experienced bookers. It's important to remember that models are very individual, from different backgrounds and with different personalities, and discretion with the direction of their careers is fundamental to their development and success as people. Some of our New Faces are under 16, but they generally just shoot tests and gain confidence until they are 16 and more mature. We would never advocate sending any model - even those over 16 - to a job she was not experienced enough to deal with."
The MPs want models under 16 to be given the same rights as child actors and actresses and be chaperoned to shoots and catwalk shows. Led by Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson, who recently invited media professionals to watch US feminist documentary, Miss-Representation, at the House of Commons, the campaign also encourages standards to limit child models' working hours and mandatory food and water to be provided. Performing arts union Equity also wants to see protection offered for young British models when travelling abroad.

"In London we do not have any girls on the catwalk who are under 16," explained White. "We stopped all of that about three years ago and it works well here. Other countries say they have a 16-only policy but they do not police it properly. Here in the UK, the BFC is very strict and we have to provide passport proof of age. Consequently you do still see the odd girl of 13 -15 on the catwalk in NY, Milan, Paris. It would be better if it was a level playing field wouldn't it?"

"Show season is particularly stressful and we have a team managing the girls' schedules, interests and needs 24/7," added Doukas. "We were fully behind the Model Health Inquiry's recommendation to restrict LFW to girls of 16 and above, and we are pleased to say this has been maintained since 2007."
Over the past year, several labels have recruited young faces to front new campaigns and model in their catwalk shows, including Miu Miu who hired 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld and Marc Jacobs - whose fragrance advert featuring 13-year-old Elle Fanning was banned. Diane von Furstenberg mistakenly used a 15-year-old, Hailee Clauson, in her autumn/winter 2011-12 show - an error she quickly apologised for. Vogue adheres to a strict policy, whereby the magazine never shoots or works with models under 16.
"Who would bear the cost of these mandatory chaperones?" questioned White. "If we feel the model needs someone with her we send a chaperone. Perhaps, the MP would like to come and meet an agent to put her mind at rest. I travel all the time to other cities and feel proud of how we take care of models compared to some places. To me, our models are the most precious, they are young girls in an exciting world and a motherly and professional eye should be over them at all the time. The model agents - the AMA members - are all the most professional and caring agents probably in the world towards their models. In the UK we have thoroughly responsible clients who really take care of the models and I would have no problem sending anyone to shoots on their own to a client like Vogue, for example, as these guys know what they are doing."

Everyday Luxury

ALICE TEMPERLEY'S new collaboration with Filofax came from her obsession for all things stationery.
"I have hundreds of sketchbooks all around me, I still like to put pen to paper," she told us. "However, for me, a Filofax is so much more than a diary and definitely crosses that divide from stationery to accessory."

The British designer has created two luxurious limited edition diaries, The Guinea created using high quality pony-skin and The Affair made with Italian lace bonded onto soft peach leather - both signatures of the Temperley label.
"As well as using today's gadgets, I also treasure putting pen to paper for my lists, notes and sketches," she explained. "The Filofax collection that I've developed allows me to have everything in one place where I can jot down ideas and store the constant inspirations I gather. The collaboration fuses our brands together. We have revived some very classic designs and added a twist of eccentricity and decadence."
Priced at £375 and £399 respectively, the organisers fit into the high end stationery market. The designer was keen to inject a little beauty into what is seen as an everyday object - to the extent that her lace style can even double up as a clutch bag. Even the diaries' interiors have been personalised, featuring lists of Temperley's favourite festivals, markets and recipes and a handwritten message.
"Filofax organisers are very personal things," she said. "Most would presume that with the planning functions of smartphones and tablets, paper organisers might become redundant. For me, there's no replacing that wonderful feeling of writing, drawing, hoarding and collecting real paper things; of course I also couldn't function without my blackberry so there is a holder for that in The Guinea. I think, and hope, a lot of people still have a love for pen and paper."

With a second Filofax collaboration on its way, Temperley has more plans to expand her label this year.
"We are growing our bridal line, Ophelia 2012, to New York Bridal Week as we have just turned it into a wholesale line," she explained. "We have also grown our Alice by Temperley diffusion collection and launched an initiative to support young talent, which is really inspiring."
The collection will available from Selfridges, Filofax stores and the Temperley London boutique from February 20.

Updated January 17, 9.42am: Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams unsurprisingly both received BAFTA nods today, following their Golden Globes triumph, and critics' favourite The Artist looks set to clean up again at the ceremony on Sunday February 12 at London's Royal Opera House. Although Brad Pitt received a nomination for his part in Moneyball, Angelina Jolie's directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, was overlooked.
British actress Carey Mulligan started the year off well with a Supporting Actress nomination for her part in Drive, whilst her Shame co-star Michael Fassbender picked up a nomination for his role in that film. British actor Gary Oldman, meanwhile - who took to the Prada catwalk rather than attending the Golden Globes this weekend - received a Best Actor nomination for his role in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. IDEX Online: 2011 online spending +13%

New York--Online retail spending reached $49.7 billion for the fourth quarter of 2011, an increase of 14 percent year-over-year, reports digital tracker comScore, Inc. This was the ninth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth and the fifth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth rates.

U.S. retail ecommerce spending for full-year 2011 reached a record $161.5 billion, up 13 percent from 2010. Ten individual days in the fourth quarter exceeded $1 billion in online spending, led by Cyber Monday (Nov. 28) at $1.25 billion. Monday, Dec. 5, ranked second at $1.18 billion, followed by Green Monday (Dec. 12) at $1.13 billion.

The Jewelry & Watches category was among the top-performing online product categories and grew at least 18 percent compared to the previous year.

"The fourth quarter of 2011 capped off what was yet another strong year for online retail, one in which every quarter achieved double-digit increases versus the prior year," said comScore chairman Gian Fulgoni.

"In the face of continuing uncertainty regarding the U.S. economy, consumers increasingly went online for their shopping needs," he said. "Price and convenience continue to be the critical value drivers for ecommerce. And unless those conditions change, we can expect to see more channel-shifting to online in 2012 and perhaps even an acceleration in the current growth trend."

Featuring: Arctic Monkeys — You And I

It’s been so cold this week that we’ve been forced to wear everything we own, all at once. This has been good for staying alive, bad for our sex life, and left us with a pile of laundry that would give Feodor Vassilyev nightmares. Time for some new stuff, then.

SOD YOU, SUN. GO MOON!

We feel a bit sorry for the moon, sometimes. Everyone bursts their trousers about seeing the sunrise, but poor old moony is rarely mentioned. “Oh don’t worry about me guys. I’m just here, controlling sea levels and managing werewolves; making sure there’s some light when the sun is off fucking about on the other side of the world, but, y’know, whatever.”

Well here you go, mate. Have a T-shirt.

WALKING ON THE AIR

Have you noticed how every single pair of trainers/boots/shoes/other-things-you-put-on-your-feet now has a contrast sole? Remember the days when soles were - and this might sound crazy - the same colour as the rest of the shoe? We're not complaining, of course. We prefer it this way; like floating on a small cloud of style.

THIS COAT IS BETTER THAN MARMALADE SANDWICHES

First thing: this coat is great. Final thing: you can pretend you're a badass Paddington Bear. That is something you should do.

AWW, CUTLERY FRIENDS

We thought this was a really charming sweatshirt. We were writing some stuff about how cool it'd be if your cutlery came to life when you're not around and carried on like best pals, having hilariious adventures. And then we saw the look on spoon's face. Now we can't unsee CUTLERY GANG RAPE.

GET YOURSELF A BAG, YOU CAN CARRY THINGS IN IT

It's an awesome bag. You can put your stuff in it. Well what were you expecting?

L'Oréal's New Girl

SHE has appeared in catwalk shows from Louis Vuitton to Chanel, but now 18-year-old Barbara Palvin has been named an ambassador for L'Oréal Paris.

The Hungarian model - who first hit the fashion scene when she walked in Prada's autumn/winter 2010-11 show - will be the face of L'Oréal Paris' new sheer lipstick, Rouge Caresse.

WHO LIKENED PALVIN TO NATALIA VODIANOVA?

"I'm very excited about the prospect of joining the L'Oréal Paris family alongside huge, iconic celebrities such as Gwen Stefani and Claudia Schiffer," Palvin said. "I have a very personal vision of beauty, which is very closely aligned with [L'Oréal Paris'] modern approach."

And L'Oréal Paris is equally pleased with the appointment.

"[Palvin] is a very promising supermodel with a fascinating personality, [a] fresh and elegant beauty with a great sense of humour and astonishing maturity," Cyril Chapuy, global brand president of L'Oréal Paris, told WWD. "I think she has this incredible potential to become a household name."

US: LF USA eyes expansion at new Greensboro office

LF USA, a subsidiary of Hong Kong based consumer goods sourcing giant Li & Fung Limited, has opened new offices in Greensboro, North Carolina and hinted that expansion is likely.

With a total of 30,000 square feet, the LF USA office on Grandover Parkway will house key support functions including accounting and finance, treasury management, transaction services, logistics and customs compliance.

The company has already hired 145 workers and expects to lift this to 200 by the end of the year.

"We have an aggressive style about how we go about building these businesses. I think that will continue," Rick Darling, LF USA president, said yesterday (6 February). "We doubled the size of our business every three years. That's our game plan, and we intend to continue to do that."

Li & Fung employs around 27,000 staff globally, with its US business headquartered in New York. It also operates around 240 offices and distribution centres and has access to a sourcing network of over 15,000 suppliers.

The company manages the clothing and footwear supply chain for major department stores and mass retailers like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom's, Macy's, Kohl's, JCPenney and Walmart. Its portfolio also includes brands and licenses for women, men and kids such as Coach and Calvin Klein footwear, Frye boots, Hurley, Rocawear, Under Armour and fashion lifestyle collections such as Rachel Zoe, Sofia Vergara and Jennifer Lopez.

"After extensive research, we chose Greensboro, as we believe it's the right place to locate our support functions," Darling added. "Greensboro has a great community, a huge pool of talent, and is a historic hub for our industry."

The Closet Thinker: Perk up your pins

I know we're supposed to be veering towards gloominess at this time of year - tax bills, credit crunches - but I'm feeling rather cheerful today, having just inspected the budding spring bulbs in my garden. Perhaps it's the promise of early lilac crocuses, or the splash of palest lemon yellow narcissus against the dark earth, but I'm considering an uncharacteristic purchase of coloured jeans, instead of my usual daytime uniform of navy denim and a black jumper.

Certainly, there's a rainbow of choice in the shops this month - the antithesis of what you might expect, against a backdrop of doom-laden economic forecasts - but a swing from dark shades to light has some precedent in fashion history (the little black dresses of the Jazz Age, for example, superseded by pale satin gowns in the lean years following the Wall Street Crash, and thence to Cristobal Balenciaga's violets).
Gap, already doing a brisk trade in scarlet skinny cords, is launching a new line of pastel jeans this weekend, in rose pink, sky blue and lilac, while Boden has a design in tempting cyclamen (an exact match to the flowers that survived the shrivelling winter frosts in my window boxes). There's more inspiration at Donna Ida (including reversible denim by Bleulab, in cobalt, guava, and emerald green); or ardent fans of Pippa Middleton may be inspired by her appearance last month in Superdry's powdered-poppy jeans (£59.95, and still available last time I looked online). Alternatively, you could try the bright palette of Gwyneth Paltrow's favourite brand, Rag & Bone (iris, plum, magenta and jade, among other jewel-coloured jeans).

As for what to wear with any of these: I'm not sure if a black jumper is quite right; navy might be better, or grey, over a close-fitting white T-shirt? Pippa Middleton wore bubble-gum pink denim in January with a black and white checked shirt, a tailored black Zara blazer, plus black ankle boots and dark glasses; fine on her, but possibly too like a child's drawing of a caterpillar for me. Not that Ms Middleton is anything other than a butterfly - having emerged, apparently fully formed, from a hidden chrysalis, unblinking, into the light - but as yet, she comes nowhere close to challenging more grown-up style icons. Hence the question I now ask myself: would Carine Roitfeld (former Paris Vogue editor, now working with Karl Lagerfeld) wear pastel jeans? No, probably not, unless on a summer beach holiday; but she might just condone a sophisticated streak of tulip red, against the backdrop of a grey city street in February.

Naomi Preizler: fashion's in-house artist

When she's not striding down the catwalk, the model Naomi Preizler is often to be found backstage, sketching her world in all its extraordinary glory.

Fashion's not all glamour, you know. Like that of a film star, the life of a professional model tends to involve lots of tedious hanging around - queuing for castings, queuing for fittings, waiting for four hours to see if your face fits the bill for this season's Calvin Klein show… While some girls might use this time to micro-edit their Facebook profiles or begin cultivating that inner diva, the Argentine model Naomi Preizler reaches for her pencil.

The 21-year-old, who has walked in catwalk shows for labels such as Alexander Wang, Chanel, Givenchy and Balenciaga, and has been photographed in magazines including Italian Vogue, Interview and Love, is fast becoming fashion's unofficial artist in residence, doing lightning-quick sketches of her sister models backstage, and bold, larger-than-life self-portraits. And it was queuing in the ateliers of grand designers that proved the inspirational catalyst.

'You know, you're watching Jean Paul Gaultier or Nicolas Ghesquière designing - they're artists. It's a great opportunity,' she says, in the office of her London model agency, Premier. 'I realised fashion students, for example, would die to see this.'
Having grown up in an artistic household in Buenos Aires - her father an architect and sometime oil painter, her grandmother a sculptor - Preizler has been obsessed with both art and fashion from a young age. She was spotted by a model scout aged 14 but didn't take up modelling until she left high school. In the meantime she had started producing her own versions of fashion images that caught her eye. She still has a 1995 issue of Italian Vogue bought while on holiday in Rome with her family, from which she did drawings of a Moschino advertising campaign.

When her international career finally began, a world of fine art also opened. 'I was living in Paris, going to the Louvre, seeing the Old Masters,' she says, in her accented but perfect English. 'I discovered Schiele's work, which I'd seen in books, but when you see them in person it's different. In Argentina we don't have access to anything like that, but in Europe you're surrounded by it.'
In 2007 she found herself at a Balenciaga fitting in the presence of the house's designer, Nicolas Ghesquière. 'He was sketching and there was this beautiful coat from the show and I thought, "I want to draw this!"' She started taking her sketchbook along to model castings. 'You're in line-ups for an hour, two hours,' she says.
'All the girls are listening to music or reading or chatting and I was talking to nobody, so I started sketching. I wore my sunglasses so nobody could see me looking at them.'

Her drawings have to be quick - 'The girls move on all the time' - and she sometimes leaves them half-finished, liking the sketchiness of the figures. Preizler develops some initial drawings into paintings, using lurid colours that burst out of the page almost monstrously. A backstage self-portrait sketched at a Chanel fitting - the reflected figure is herself as artist, the other figure herself as Chanel model - was fleshed out afterwards on paper in acrylic, combined with watercolour, ink and pencil. She also paints on canvas in oil brightened with acrylic paint to make the colour more vibrant. The effect, combined with the exaggerated features she gives herself - 'I always do thick eyebrows and strong features and skinny figures because it's a version of me' - is carnivalesque.

Her peers have differing reactions. 'Some of the girls don't like it, and some people really like it and say, "Oh, I see you're sketching me, Naomi. OK…"' - Preizler strikes a challenging 'model' pose in imitation - '"…let's see what you've got!"'
With such unique inside access Preizler's artistic talent is increasingly sought after. She's proud that she's been on the cover of Argentine Harper's Bazaar, with her art featured inside. Jean Paul Gaultier owns the watercolour she did of him and Beth Ditto after his spring/summer 2011 show, and Harvey Nichols recently commissioned Preizler to illustrate its spring/summer 2012 press book. At the next round of international fashion weeks she'll be doing backstage drawings for vogue.com.

Beth Ditto and Jean Paul Gaultier

Preizler, it seems, has found that elusive path of working and indulging her passion at the same time. 'For me fashion and art will always go alongside each other,' she says.

First Look At Marni For H&M (Plus, 4 Other Fashiony Things I'm Obsessed With This Month)

Glamour’s resident trend tracker Rajni Lucienne Jacques sifts through all the fashion goodness for you, including...Marni for H&M!

This month, I adore...

1. Marni at H&M—oh, my!

Marni’s H&M line is print-tastic perfection!

What do you think?

I’m obsessed with some high-end designers. But I can’t afford anything they produce (cue the violins). So I got little-kid happy when I heard that Marni is doing a capsule collection with H&M. These collabs come fast and furious, and this stuff looks like the real deal: graphic patterns and cool textures but at un-Marni prices—$10 to $199. We can all buy it March 8 in H&M stores and online at hm.com.

2. This badass moto jacket

Motorcycle jackets have been an integral part of my wardrobe ever since I bought my very first authentic Schott one back in the early nineties. Now the same label that made me look cool in junior high—a triumph!—has come out with its MadeMe x Schott NYC Perfecto version. I love how it toughens up floral dresses or gives an edgy James Dean look when worn with jeans and a T-shirt.

3. The sporty mesh trend

This holey stuff was all over the runways at New York’s Fashion Week. And with my Caribbean heritage (we love a mesh look), it was awesome to see the sporty/beachy fabric get a high-fashion makeover. You don’t have to wear the style head to toe. Try a mesh tank with a bright pair of jeans. Perfect.

4. Kanye, the designer

At Paris Fashion Week last fall, the man had his haters. “West’s fashion debut was like being subjected to an hour-long MRI scan—but not as much fun,” wrote The Daily Telegraph. But I’m going to say: When he walked Glamour through his collection afterward, there were hidden gems. Check out these metallic pants. I’m curious to see what’s next.

5. Statement sandals

Every spring I go on a journey to find a not-too-high sandal that satisfies me as much as my usual heels. I want style and comfort at the same time! This season, Loeffler Randall answered my prayers. Their new Heart LR capsule collection is full of fun neon clogs. Cutesy and chic all at once.

So, what do you think of Marni for H&M? How about these other stylish finds?

Jewelry Fashion Tips for Women

Once you're dressed in your pants suit, jeans and blouse, or even your little black dress, you can't forget the finishing touches. Jewelry is an important part of fashion that should not be neglected, even if all you put on is a gold band on your thumb. There are a few jewelry fashion tips to keep in mind when you are finishing off your look.

Bracelets

Any time you wear what can be considered a blouse, especially one with short sleeves or three-quarter sleeves, you should wear a bracelet on one of your arms. If you are going for a casual look, especially with jeans, try silver or gold bangles or a wide metal or acrylic slip-on bracelet. For an edgy look, such as with an asymmetrical dress, try a metal cuff bracelet (shaped like a "C"). For a formal or upscale look, stick with an elegant and simple diamond tennis bracelet or a mesh bracelet made of a precious metal (see Resources for an example). Avoid wearing bracelets on both wrists, as that can overwhelm your look.

Necklaces

The necklace that you wear will depend mostly on the neckline of your blouse or dress. If you're wearing a V-neck or scoop-neck top, go with a drop necklace with a charm on the end. Wear a precious gem, crystal or rhinestone charm, with both formal and casual wear. Choker necklaces look nice with strapless dresses that expose the chest and spaghetti strap styles.

Earrings

Details are everything. Even the smallest detail, like a diamond stud, could be the perfect accessory to complete your outfit. There are three main types of earrings that are popular for women in fashion---hoops, drop earrings and studs.

Hoop earrings should be worn with casual wear, though you can feel free to wear small hoops (the width of a finger) with formal outfits---especially when the hoops are diamond- or rhinestone-studded. Drop earrings are generally extravagant or artistic. They are meant to be admired and commented upon. Put on a pair of drop earrings when you have a special occasion---an event where you will surely be "seen." Most styles of drop earrings go nicely with formal gowns (you see these frequently at red carpet events), dressy pant suits and jeans, when you are wearing a head-turning blouse. Diamond or other gem studs are best for casual, everyday outfits.

Less is More

Do not overdo your jewelry when accessorizing. Depending on the styles you choose, there are situations where just one interesting piece of jewelry, like a colorful rhinestone bracelet, or a pair of chandelier earrings, will be enough for the whole outfit. One of the rare acceptable situations when you could wear a necklace, earrings, and a bracelet is when you have a simple drop diamond charm necklace, diamond stud earrings and a tennis bracelet.
