Milan Fashion Week

11.31am: Gucci creative director Frida Giannini has given an insight into what we can expect from the label's latest show this afternoon.
"I was thinking about a certain type of romanticism," she told Italian newspaper La Repubblica. "It's quite nocturnal in a way, quite dark, but still very sensual and feminine. It's about the dual of the Gucci woman - she can be very feminine and sensual, but as the same time very tough and powerful. There are some military references from the 19th Century, so I have explored equestrian boots."
But even Gianinni, a fashion veteran, isn't immune to the odd Fashion Week disaster.
"A few years ago, in the most exciting moment of the show, all the evening gowns were on the catwalk but the music was completely off," she said. "There was a technical problem, so the models were all out and I was crying backstage."

Updated Wednesday February 22, 8.32am: After the excitement of London (Erdem and Kane and McQ, oh my), the womenswear shows move to the glamour of Milan today - whilst London becomes the world's menswear hub for one day only.

Never a city known for an excess of subtlety, Milan puts its biggest names right out in front: beginning with Gucci on the very first day. Alberta Ferretti and Alessandro Dell'Aqcua's No.21 share the Wednesday schedule before things get even bigger on Thursday.
We don't have to wait long for the rest of the Italian powerhouses to appear - with Karl Lagerfeld's Fendi and the fashion pack's favourite, Prada, taking to the catwalk on Thursday. Friday brings out Moschino, Etro and Just Cavalli - all before lunch - whilst the evening sees the unveiling of the new Versace collection.

Bottega Veneta opens the weekend's schedule, followed by Emporio Armani, Jil Sander and Emilio Pucci - and Sunday brings us exactly what we want to look at on a lazy afternoon: a gaggle of Dolce & Gabbana-clad supermodels, and almost certainly some dresses to die for. New high street hero Marni and knitwear specialists Missoni also share Sunday's catwalk schedule.

Polar opposite DSquared and Giorgio Armani bring the short week to an end on Monday, before we turn our attentions to Paris and the last leg of the fashion carousel.
