Part For Sale

Updated Tuesday May 22, 12.08pm: Karl Lagerfeld is teaming up with movie mogul Harvey Weinstein to create the ultimate lot for amfAR's upcoming Cinema Against AIDS gala auction: a part in the duo's next film. Weinstein will produce and Lagerfeld will direct a short film starring the highest bidder, the New York Post reports, and the prize will be up for grabs to the highest bidder at the event at the Hotel du Cap-Eden Roc in Cap d'Antibes this Thursday. As well as the auction, the event will feature a fashion show by former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld - and is bound to be attended by fashion's most glamorous stars. Updated Tuesday May 22, 11.46am: Prada debuted a short film, directed by Roman Polanski, at Cannes last night.

Entitled A Therapy, the feature stars Vogue cover girl Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Kingsley - who plays Bonham Carter's therapist but, after becoming bored of his patient's stories, finds himself somewhat obsessed with her purple Prada coat. "When I was asked to shoot a short movie for Prada, I did not think that I could really be myself," said Polanski. "The reality is that, in the total freedom I was given, I had the opportunity to reunite my favourite group of people on set and just have fun. The chance to dwell on what the fashion world represents nowadays and the fact that it is accompanied by so many stereotypes is fascinating and at the same time a bit upsetting, but you definitely cannot ignore it. It's very refreshing to know that there are still places open to irony and wit and, for sure, Prada is one of them." Updated Monday May 21, 9.11am: He may be a juror at the Cannes Film Festival now, but designer Jean Paul Gaultier has revealed that there was a time when he couldn't even get in to the prestigious event.
