Back to School Clothes for Girls: Designer Girl

For the first day of school, skip the been-there-done-that jeans and tees and dress her up in something she'll flip for. I love this look. The dress, by Kico Kids is tailored perfectly and is everything a designer dress should be--well made, beautifully fitted, stylish and unique. And, it looks great paired with the soft, long-sleeved tee, also by Kico Kids. The tee has an enlarged, houndstooth pattern on it and would be super paired with a pair of jeans for a more casual, yet still stylish look.

Ellie said, "I really like this dress. It looks like a uniform, only prettier. And the blue shirt matches too."

Ellie's adorable shoes by Pediped are just plain fun. They are a beautiful pair of chocolate brown, classic Mary Janes, jazzed up with a sparkling of yellow, cream and metallic pink polka-dots. Pediped is one of my favorite lines of kids' and toddler shoes. They are always sturdy, stylish and comfy--a winning combo.

And to top the look off, Ellie chose a navy and white hair clip by No Slippy Hair Clippy. As they say, the accessories make the look!

Fall Fashion Trends for Girls: Updated Preppy Perfect

The preppy look never goes away, it just gets refined. For Back to School 2011, keep her preppy look simple and modern. Choose preppy classics such as polos and sweater dresses in a color scheme she loves. But, instead of piling on the standby, preppy items, pick and choose one or two and mix them with other items from her wardrobe for a more streamlined, modern look.

Brenna put together a winning look with this lovely soft-pink and heather-grey, argyle sweater dress by Vineyard Vines. She paired it up with an adorable, small handbag that compliments her dress perfectly. Instead of going for classic preppy shoes such as Keds or loafers, she chose a modern pair of black ballet flats. Her B2S look is on point, perfect and so easy to put together with only three major items.

We've been having a fairly mild winter in my neck of the woods, thus far, and all the rainy weather has tricked me into thinking it's nearly time to start buying spring shoes. Even though I'm pretty sure I'll be back in my winter boots sometime next week, it's still fun to look ahead to what we'll be wearing a few months from now.

5 Things a Grown Woman Should Never Wear

I hate overalls. Period. But every couple of years someone decides they need to be part of our wardrobe again (uh, thanks Madewell.)

As far as I'm concerned, there are limits to what grown women should wear (and, no, I don't think you should put a time stamp on miniskirts -- if you've still got it, flaunt it.)

Read through the list, then chime in with your Grown Woman Don'ts.

SAG Awards 2012 Makeup: Maya Rudolph

Makeup artist Molly R. Stern made over comedy maven Maya Rudolph for the SAG Awards red carpet last night. Here, the deets straight from Molly.

" I prepped Maya's skin with jurlique rose water spray and a light massage with Revive Serum Protectif. Next I used a sheer wash of Chantecaille foundation to even out her skin still wanting very much her freckles to shine through.

Next I warmed up the apples of her cheeks with HOURGLASS illume in bronze light and then added some LAURA MERCIER cream blush in Blaze over top to add a flushed finish.

For her eyes, I first highlighted her lid with LAURA MERCIER metallic creme eye color in rose gold. Next I defined and fused out a very black smudge of YSL faux cils in deep black on both the top and bottom line. Then I added a sparkling aubergine color over top for an extra hit of glisten. For her lashes I used several coats of film noir mascara by HOURGLASS plus an extra coat of film noir lash lacquer.

For her lips I used TARTE cosmetics in enchanted."

I thought she looked radiant. What say you about Maya Rudolph's 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards makeup?
