FORGET her own medal win, Rebecca Adlington seemed more impressed by the Duchess of Cambridge's shoes when the royals paid a surprise visit to the Olympic Village yesterday. The Team GB swimmer was busy admiring Catherine's blue wedges as the Duchess, Prince William and Prince Harry stopped by to congratulate the team on their success so far. "I just love her shoes. They're much nicer than the sports gear we're wearing this week," Adlington told The Daily Telegraph. "It's amazing that the royals are here today. They were so, so lovely." The Duchess was wearing a pair of £245 navy blue cork wedges by Stuart Weitzman for Russell and Bromley, which she teamed with slim-fit jeans, a nautical striped top and Smythe blazer. Catherine, accompanied by Princes William and Harry, had been out supporting cousin Zara Phillips earlier during the day - who helped Team GB take home a silver medal in the eventing team jumping final. Adlington has also added to the total medal count, winning the bronze in the 400-metre swimming freestyle. A keen follower of fashion, the 23-year-old was spotted showing off her patriotic nails as she accepted her prize.

The Real Louboutin

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN does not take pleasure in creating painful shoes, contrary to popular belief. "I have been misquoted," he told us. "People say I am the king of painful shoes. I don't want to create painful shoes, but it is not my job to create something comfortable. I try to make high heels as comfortable as they can be, but my priority is design, beauty and sexiness. I'm not against them, but comfort is not my focus." Louboutin is currently celebrating his 20th anniversary in fashion and this year is set to be one of his busiest yet. He is currently the subject of an extensive retrospective exhibition at London's Design Museum; on Tuesday night scooped Condé Nast Traveller's Retail honour during its annual Innovation & Design Awards - held at the Mariott Hotel in London's Grosvenor Square; and has signed up to be a judge of Martini Royale's new search for the face of Martini - in which members of the public can enter to become the brand's next campaign star. Of all his many career successes, the designer's all-time proudest moment was creating the shoes worn at the finale of Yves Saint Laurent's final couture show. It was the only time the late couturier collaborated with another designer.

Supermodel Shoes

ALESSANDRA AMBROSIO has created a shoe collection with Melissa, the label that has previously created its recognisable plastic shoes with designers including Vivienne Westwood, Gareth Pugh and Jean Paul Gaultier.

GO INSIDE ALESSANDRA'S WARDROBE
The pregnant Victoria's Secret Angel is the first celebrity to design a range for the brand but the collaboration is the first in a new series, called Melissa Loves, which will see more celebrity fans of the brand create their own ideal styles. Ambrosio has designed two shapes: Melissa Incense Glitter, a delicate pump inspired by the ladylike style of the Fifties; and Melissa Divine, a classic ballet flat.
"I thought about something that represented my style. I only wear what I love," said Ambrosio. "I decided to take part in the project because I was looking for something beyond the modeling career. I think the creative process fascinating, and I have to tell you that I was willing to get involved and create something with my name, my brand."

To celebrate the collaboration, Ambrosio stars on the cover of the seventh edition of the company's in house magazine, Plastic Dreams, sporting a pair of the shoes she designed.

LFW Secret

ONE of London Fashion Week's best kept secrets, the Designer Jumble Sale, takes place tomorrow - and if you're fast you could bag a catwalk purchase for less than a high street one.

Highlights include: Versus by Christopher Kane boots, worth £690, priced at £155; a Phillip Lim blue pussy-bow blouse, worth £300, for just £60; a Ralph Lauren red cashmere jacket, still on sale for £1200, priced at £200; and a Marc Jacobs pink tweed jacket for £50.

"London Fashion Week and the whole fashion industry is amazingly supportive; and the generosity of our donors helps us give our customers even better bargains to beat the wintery weather, like a pair of knee-high boots and an amazing Ashley Isham tweed coat going for £89," the sale's organiser, and former VOGUE.COM editor, Abi Chisman told us. "But my favourites this season are the rare items like a skeleton-print Tshirt from Luella's 2003 collaboration with surfwear label Voodoo Dolls, £12; and a Seventies Yves Saint Laurent mac for just £89. Bring on spring!"

The Designer Jumble Sale takes place at the Church of the Annunciation, Bryanston Street, London, W1H 7AH from 4pm until 7.30pm tomorrow (nearest Tube: Marble Arch). Follow @designerjumble on Twitter or Like it on Facebook for more information.

US: LF USA eyes expansion at new Greensboro office

LF USA, a subsidiary of Hong Kong based consumer goods sourcing giant Li & Fung Limited, has opened new offices in Greensboro, North Carolina and hinted that expansion is likely.

With a total of 30,000 square feet, the LF USA office on Grandover Parkway will house key support functions including accounting and finance, treasury management, transaction services, logistics and customs compliance.

The company has already hired 145 workers and expects to lift this to 200 by the end of the year.

"We have an aggressive style about how we go about building these businesses. I think that will continue," Rick Darling, LF USA president, said yesterday (6 February). "We doubled the size of our business every three years. That's our game plan, and we intend to continue to do that."

Li & Fung employs around 27,000 staff globally, with its US business headquartered in New York. It also operates around 240 offices and distribution centres and has access to a sourcing network of over 15,000 suppliers.

The company manages the clothing and footwear supply chain for major department stores and mass retailers like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom's, Macy's, Kohl's, JCPenney and Walmart. Its portfolio also includes brands and licenses for women, men and kids such as Coach and Calvin Klein footwear, Frye boots, Hurley, Rocawear, Under Armour and fashion lifestyle collections such as Rachel Zoe, Sofia Vergara and Jennifer Lopez.

"After extensive research, we chose Greensboro, as we believe it's the right place to locate our support functions," Darling added. "Greensboro has a great community, a huge pool of talent, and is a historic hub for our industry."

WELCOME TO AUTUMN WINTER 2012 - THE INSPIRED COLLECTIVE FROM VAN DAL

Unsurprisingly trends continue to reflect the general mood, whether in the form of a positive nostalgia or as a reaction to austerity and harder times. With three key looks we have a mix of both for the new season. They include ‘Clear Concept’ a mid-century inspired modernism, ‘Highland Fling’ a British heritage reflection and the glitzy rebelliousness of ‘From Russia with Love’ a subtle nod to the timeless glamour of the Ballet Russe in all its embellished glory. The result is a stunning collection, with seven key groups, enough we would like to think to warm the cockles of any bank manager or customer alike.

MADE IN ENGLAND

Having launched Van Dal Vintage in celebration of our 75th anniversary we find ourselves riding the crest of a tidal wave of British manufacturing revivalism.

Referencing key elements of the ‘From Russia with Love’ trend the highlight of the Made in England collection is the Aurora II, a perfect example of a contemporary classic but with added bling. One, of course, that is made in our Norwich factory.

DON’T MAKE DO. AMEND.

Available for use on selected Van Dal styles in the Made in England group our new mix and match group with removable trims neatly straddles two of the seasons key trends.

With embellishment in place they happily tap along to the Ballet Russe. Conversely, and without trim, the cleaner simpler lines dominate and a ‘Clear Concept’ minimalism emerges.

Trims can of course be used on any plain court or handbag however selected shoes such as Holt shown below come with one pair included and the option of two looks. With more trims available at £18 per pair the choice is there for one shoe and four different looks. So don’t make do with one, open up the possibilities and amend!

AUTUMNAL WEDGES

With strong Highland notes this crepe soled wedge group is perfect for Autumn. Fantastic detailing and rich materials ensure that the soft suede and nappa, gimped edging and subtle hardware deliver a contemporary and hugely commercial category from Van Dal.

With the benefits of ion-mask™, this group offers stylish comfort that will offer protection from the vagaries of the British weather.

There are three different options in shoe, short (shown) and knee length boots..

Stonehaven short boot.

Available in 36 – 41

RRP £110.

WINTERPROOF BOOTS

With our new VanGuard waterproof and breathable membrane these boots are guaranteed to keep you snug and dry next winter. Comfort has been designed in with a combination of features including lightweight PU moulded outsole providing thermal protection and cushioning, moulded ankle support, antibacterial lining and an anatomically moulded footbed.

Available in soft crinkle patent and nappa leather the clean lines of these designs heavily reference our Clear Concept them making them a great partner for a smart, chic winter outfit.

Findhorn boot.

Available in 35 – 42

RRP £130

SIMPLECOMFORT*

Now in its third season our simplecomfort* collection perfectly combines a contemporary look with unadulterated comfort.

Put simply this collection is designed to allow you to take the day in your stride, confident in the knowledge that your feet wont feel as sharp as you look.

Super soft and flexible we have 4 new styles that will mould to your feet like your favourite slippers, only more stylish.. Each shoe also comes ion-mask™ treated for protection against the British weather.

Chiswick ankle boot

Available in 3 – 8 inc ½

Fitting: D

RRP £100

BONNIE BROGUES

Ok so this is no Tarrantino-esque pulp fiction but the immortal line “ bring out the gimp” is a perfect introduction to our collection of Highland inspired brogues and loafers.

Beautifully crafted with soft nutty leathers the punched detailing and gimped edging look delicious. With a fantastic and super flexible partner loafer, called Windsor, you can say goodbye to those stiff, stuffy and poor imitations, and embrace a new level of comfort.

Clyde brogue shoe

Available in 3 – 8 inc ½

Fitting: D

RRP £100

FLEXIBLE FRIENDS

In a continual quest for better shoes we set about deconstructing our

traditional courts. The aim was to maintain the trademark Van Dal

look whilst further improving flexibility and comfort.

Shoe construction inevitably involves compromise amid layers of material and adhesive. In combination these help to provide those nice straight lines that rise to a perfect ‘clip’ at the heel. The downside can be a lack of flexibility which can reduce comfort.

The result of our work here though is a range of leather courts that offer both the look of Van Dal with the comfort of a casual shoe. Buttery soft foulard leathers, flexible outsoles, engineered linings. The result is a shoe as flexible as a leotard worn by the Green Goddess at her best.

Wells court shoe

Available in 3 – 8 inc ½

Fitting: D

RRP £75

Barratts Priceless Group Update

The Joint Administrators of the Barratts Priceless Group today announced that they have been successful in finding a buyer of the business and the majority of its assets. The deal to the existing management team will ensure that the Barratts and Priceless brands and the online business will continue to trade. The sale will include 89 stores and has safeguarded 1,184 jobs. Regrettably the deal will result in the closure of 39 stores and 14 concessions and 680 additional redundancies.

Daniel Butters, Joint Administrator and partner in Deloitte’s restructuring services practice, comments: “We are delighted to have negotiated a deal, which will secure the employment of over 1,100 employees and ensure the Barratts and Priceless brands continue, especially given the adversity which has beset the High Street over recent months
