Princess Freja

FREJA BEHA ERICHSEN may be the edgy, grungy beauty of the modelling world, but she was happy to transform herself into a princess for the Valentino Valentina fragrance campaign. "Valentino is romantic, ultra-feminine, and beautiful - but it's also a little rock 'n' roll," she said. "Think of all the leather and studs! I never have a problem switching from my day-to-day style to another 'world' - it's my job." As the face of the fragrance - a sweet, floral scent with undertones of truffle - the Danish model stars in a television advert, which sees her wandering through the streets of Rome in a ruffled Valentino dress. "Shooting the ad was like being in an Italian film!

The paparazzi were calling out at me, and I loved the locations we shot in… it was so enjoyable to do something different, like acting," she revealed to Teen Vogue. "I don't worry too much about the way I look. I do know that when you're uncomfortable, you act differently. So I always just try to be myself." The actress also revealed the secret behind her beautiful skin, citing "a lot of fruit, for vitamins," as a necessity in her diet.

Kate Moss: Hair How-To

KATE MOSS was arguably a natural choice for Vogue's Going For Gold June 2012 cover, and so her hairstyle had to be just as iconic as the issue itself. "There were two camps. We were choosing between pulling her hair back really tightly and making it really sporty - since it's the Olympics issue - and having it really glamorous to show her as the British icon she is," Malcolm Edwards - who created the look - told us. "I was really keen to create a really iconic style, but I think [photographers] Mert and Marcus wanted it pulled back. Kate was all prepped so I said 'let's put her in the clothes and see', and luckily they went with the iconic look." And, with the supermodel's hair swept dramatically to one side in retro waves, it seems Edwards achieved his goal. "She looks amazing like that, really glamorous," he said. "She was really happy with it too, it looks much harder and younger swept to one side like that. Plus it shows off those cheekbones." Here, Edwards explains exactly how he created the look: - I used all L'Oréal Professionnel products - starting with Tecni Art Volume Lift Spray Mousse at the roots, then drenching the hair in Tecni Art Pli.

Parting really low on one side added extra drama. - I then applied the Texture Expert Smooth Essence for a lovely sleek look - Kate's hair is knackered and fried and this brings it back to life - before blow-drying the hair with a round barrel brush for a smooth quality. - Still blow-drying, I created volume and movement by using a vent brush to move the hair away from the face. - Next I applied Tecni Art Constructor all over. Using a medium-sized curling iron, I began to reverse-tong the hair. This basically involves dividing the hair into sections and - starting at the parting - using the tong over the top of the first section, and then underneath the second. This creates a real Hollywood wave. If you had really natural waves like Gisele you'd be able to tong the hair in the same direction, but for fine hair like Kate's the reverse-curling works well to create movement. - Afterwards it was important to let the hair cool, clipping each section up onto the head. This is one of the most important things about styling hair - letting it cool and set so that it lasts longer. - Then I brushed the waves out, section by section, finishing with a bit of serum and Air Fix Firm Hold Spray. You could also use a fine metal comb if you wanted to, to create tension and make the look even fresher and younger. Lisa Niven

McGrath's Choice

PAT MCGRATH has created more beauty looks than we can count - just see some of her best moments here for evidence of her industry prowess - but which is her favourite?

"Now that's a tricky question because I love each and every look in a different way," McGrath told us. "But I have to say, the look we created for Dolce & Gabbana's spring/summer 2012 show using the Khol Collection was so beautiful and complemented the designers' collection really well."

The legendary make-up artist has been collaborating with the Italian design duo for over 12 years, and this particular beauty look was arguably one of the prettiest in a season of overtly feminine make-up styles.

"The concept centred on the charm and beauty of Southern Italy - Mediterranean food, the smells and the occasion. We used nail colours in deep purple to symbolise aubergine and a really stunning wild green shade for the courgette," she revealed. "It really was stunning; the models looked natural but incredibly beautiful."

And McGrath has some tips on how to achieve spring's fresh-faced prettiness for yourself.

"I think this spring we are seeing a trend which really embraces the natural, fresh-faced look. Wearing a light, almost undetectable foundation is the key. Adding a touch of bronzer with a slight glow works really well and adds a lovely radiance which is so on-trend," she said. "Finally I think a touch of blush in a rose or coral shade adds that fresh and feminine dimension; try Dolce & Gabbana's Luminous Cheek Colour in Sole as it's perfect for spring".

Marc Make-Up

MARC JACOBS may already design for three fashion labels, as well as offering fragrance and accessories, but now he plans to add make-up to that long list.

The designer is working with Sephora on a collection of colour cosmetics, as well as having recently announced that he will launch a new fragrance - Dot - in July.

"Anything to me that is part of the joy, the ritual, of getting dressed - things that women enjoy like bags, shoes, fragrance, clothes, make-up - that's what fashion's about for me," Jacobs said. "I love the opportunity, wherever there is one, to adorn, to decorate, to scent, to dress. That's what fashion's all about. It's not necessary, it's something you want - it's a fancy and a whim."

And whilst Jacobs only had his first meeting about the make-up line last week, he's already showing a lot of enthusiasm for his new venture.

"I see make-up, fragrance - everything, really - as an opportunity. The idea of choosing a colour for your lip, or an eyeliner - it's just such a delight. The ritual of waking up and making those choices is something people really enjoy," he told WWD. "We currently are working on defining what Marc Jacobs cosmetics will be, what they'll say, what makes them distinctive. I think that will take some time, but the first meeting was good."

Show Scents

FOR spring/summer 2012 designers turned to Jo Malone to scent their show spaces, but for autumn/winter 2012-13 the likes of Victoria Beckham and Christopher Kane opted for the olfactory creations of Diptyque.

THE 10 FRAGRANCES TO WEAR THIS SUMMER

Kane chose the delicate Feuille de Lavande fragrance to contrast with the tough femininity of his collection, whilst Osman contrasted warm Feu de Bois with bittersweet Choisya to complement the opulent brocade and rich palette of his autumn/winter 2012-13 offering.

Meanwhile Victoria Beckham - who last year scented her show venue with Jo Malone's zesty Lime Basil & Mandarin and Grapefruit candles - this time opted for Diptyque's heady Figuier Verte, whilst Antonio Berardi favoured the woody Opoponax.

Autumn 2012 Hair Trends

NOW that the autumn/winter 2012-13 shows have drawn to a close, it's time to take stock of the season's new hair trends.

SEE THE SEASON'S HAIR LOOKS IN OUR BACKSTAGE GALLERY

There were fringes at Marni and Versace, windswept up-dos at Rodarte and Vera Wang and side partings just about everywhere, whilst styles were accessorised with pretty hairbands at Oscar de la Renta, Dolce & Gabbana and Clements Ribeiro.

Some of spring/summer 2012's hairstyles were back for the new season too, with ponytails proving they're going nowhere and the coloured hair trend manifesting itself this time in Prada and Pringle of Scotland's vibrant dip-dyed looks.

Fashion Food

WHAT models eat is a constant source of debate, so when Jourdan Dunn, Bette Franke and Nyasha Matonhooze opened up about their New York Fashion Week diets we were keen to hear about their food choices.

"You don't get time to nourish yourself so when you do eat you really want good food," said Nyasha Matonhodze, who walked in shows including Oscar de la Renta, Rodarte and Carolina Herrera.

Matonhodze, along with Bette Franke, cited sushi as her fashion week choice, whilst Jourdan Dunn showed her love for fast food.

"Last night I had BonChon Korean fried chicken," she told The New York Magazine, referring to the cult Asian franchise.

SAG Awards 2012 Makeup: Maya Rudolph

Makeup artist Molly R. Stern made over comedy maven Maya Rudolph for the SAG Awards red carpet last night. Here, the deets straight from Molly.

" I prepped Maya's skin with jurlique rose water spray and a light massage with Revive Serum Protectif. Next I used a sheer wash of Chantecaille foundation to even out her skin still wanting very much her freckles to shine through.

Next I warmed up the apples of her cheeks with HOURGLASS illume in bronze light and then added some LAURA MERCIER cream blush in Blaze over top to add a flushed finish.

For her eyes, I first highlighted her lid with LAURA MERCIER metallic creme eye color in rose gold. Next I defined and fused out a very black smudge of YSL faux cils in deep black on both the top and bottom line. Then I added a sparkling aubergine color over top for an extra hit of glisten. For her lashes I used several coats of film noir mascara by HOURGLASS plus an extra coat of film noir lash lacquer.

For her lips I used TARTE cosmetics in enchanted."

I thought she looked radiant. What say you about Maya Rudolph's 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards makeup?
